Over the past six years, the Sharjah For Capability Development (SCD) has hosted an annual retreat with the aim of gathering stakeholders from across key sectors to explore a global trend and to discuss ways to leverage that trend for a better United Arab Emirates.
- 2016 Event
- SCD set the stage for its 2016 Annual Retreat to highlight innovation in the manufacturing and industry sector. Held in partnership with Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the Al Maha Resort and Spa from December 9 to 10, 2016, the Retreat took an in-depth look at the crucial role of innovation in reshaping and transforming the production industry in the 21st century.
- 2017 Event
- The 2017 sixth annual SCD was held under the theme of: Eduvation, Learning in the 21st Century. It explored the challenge of the skills gap in the UAE, and the potential role of eduvation— innovative approaches to education—as a tool for bridging this gap. Eduvation is a global trend, meant to address the inability of traditional education systems to adequately prepare students for a shifting economy. Major changes in the global economy have transformed labor markets and carry implications for the labor market. In the UAE, already facing challenges including a skills gaps and job mismatches, a proactive approach must be taken to ensure that Emiratis are not only prepared for, but play an active role in shaping the future of work.
